Sfruttando il nome e il logo già utilizzati per le correzioni automatizzate Fix it, Microsoft ha creato Fix it Center: uno strumento gratuito per la diagnostica e la risoluzione dei più comuni problemi relativi a Windows.
Microsoft Fix it CenterPensato soprattutto per gli utenti consumer e i piccoli uffici, Fix it Center è in grado di analizzare il software e l’hardware di un PC e, in base a questo inventario, scaricare automaticamente i relativi test diagnostici (chiamati troubleshooter). Attualmente il database di Fix it Center è in grado di rilevare oltre 300 problemi imputabili a Windows o alle sue più diffuse applicazioni e periferiche.
Per ogni problema rilevato il tool può applicare la relativa soluzione in modo automatico oppure lasciare all’utente la scelta se intervenire o meno. Le soluzioni proposte possono essere di varia natura, come il download e l’installazione di un aggiornamento, la modifica delle impostazioni di sistema o di un’applicazione specifica, o semplici istruzioni da applicare manualmente.
I troubleshooter sono raggruppati in diverse categorie, come “Internet Explorer freezes or crashes”, “Playing audio”, “Set up TV tuner”, “Internet Connections”, “Search and Indexing” e “Power”. Ciascuna categoria contiene diversi controlli diagnostici, alcuni anche piuttosto banali come la verifica che il volume audio non sia a zero o che la stampante sia accesa.
Molti dei test diagnostici inclusi in Fix it Center fanno già parte di Windows 7, e grazie a questo nuovo tool vengono ora estesi anche a Windows XP e Vista. Qualunque sia la versione di Windows utilizzata, Fix it Center offre comunque il vantaggio di combinare i vari test in una singola interfaccia e di renderli accessibili anche agli utenti meno esperti.
Il programma funziona anche sotto le versioni server di Windows, dalla 2003 alla 2008 R2.
