Spirit e Opportunity festeggiano su Marte i 6 anni di vita !
News — By Max on gennaio 3, 2010 at 21:26Erano state progettate per durare soltanto pochi mesi sulla superficie del pianeta più vicino a noi, e invece i due robot della Nasa, Spirit e Opportunity, sbalordendo i loro stessi progettisti, festeggiano il loro quinto compleanno su Marte.
Spegnere 6 candeline sul Pianeta Rosso e’ un risultato a dir poco lusingiero per la Nasa, se si pensa che i tecnici della Nasa avevano preventivato che durassero non piu’di 3 mesi.
E invece, sorprendendo tutti, i due rover esplorano Marte, rispettivamente dal 3 e dal 24 gennaio del 2004. “Sono incredibilmente resistenti” – ha dichiarato senza mezzi termini John Callas, capo progetto al Jet Propulsion Lab di Pasadena.
L’attivita’ dei robot ha dimostrato che sulla superficie del pianeta ci fu acqua allo stato liquido
. Spirit sta esplorando il cratere Gusev, pieno di sassi, rocce e terra rossastra. Opportunity sull’altro emisfero, in una regione conosciuta come Meridiani Planum, una pianura situata due gradi a sud dell’equatore di Marte.
Da un poco di tempo però Spirit è ferma e se entro il prossimo giugno – dicono dalla Nasa - non riuscirà ad assorbire nuova energia solare per ripartire, si spegnerà definitivamente.
