YouTube potrebbe infatti proporre molto presto la trasmissione di episodi di diverse serie TV, senza pubblicità interposta, lo stesso giorno della loro prima apparizione sul piccolo schermo. David Eun, vicepresidente del settore contenuti, spiega a Reuters che la diffusione di episodi di serie TV non saranno disponibili su YouTube con il modello pubblicitario attuale. “Facciamo ricerche interessanti sul contenuto di lunga durata”, precisando: “non tutti i contenuti satanno accessibili con il nostro modello pubblicitario attuale”.

Fra i diversi modelli previsti da YouTube troviamo gli abbonamenti mensili, come quelli proposti da alcuni operatori del settore, e che la stessa Apple starebbe valutando come offerta per iTunes in USA. YouTube si sarebbe anche avvicinato agli studi di Lions Gate Entertainment, Sony Pictures e Warner Bros, soprattutto per la cessione di film a pagamento. Google desidera tuttavia intensificare i suoi sforzi sulla pubblicità, un'opzione in particolare seguita dal portale americano Hulu, supportato da NBC, News Corp e Walt Disney.
Attualmente, Hulu è il secondo sito di video più popolare negli Stati Uniti, ma soprattutto quello che rappresenta il più promettente in termini di fatturato davanti a YouTube.
